The Moto G Stylus is the best-selling Moto G since its launch, and it’s not hard to understand why. This device has the potential to win a customer base of Samsung Galaxy Note looking for a sufficiently productive device for $ 399.99.
And now the device is getting 5G. The addition could be a Moto G Stylus game changer. why? The Moto G Stylus update earlier this year was a major step forward for the 2020 version. This version had some rough edges and a basic stylus that didn’t dock well.
The 2021 Moto G Stylus had many improvements in fit and finish, but the big problem for me was the lack of 5G. Motorola has fixed this issue with the Moto G Stylus 5G. This can increase purchases among those who like to write down notes. There’s also enterprise play, but I’ll talk about that a little later.
With the addition of 5G, the Moto G Stylus 5G has become a lock on my list of top budget 5G devices. In some regions, the Moto G Stylus 5G is enough to fine-tune more premium devices in the price / performance equation. Note that the Moto G Stylus 5G is sub 6GHz, not millimeter waves. For me, the millimeter wave feature isn’t very important as it’s not yet widely available.
No 5G category device on this budget can offer it all. The Moto G Stylus 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4805G processor. Its processor lags behind the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 found on premium devices. In the US, the Moto G Stylus 5G will be available worldwide for $ 399.99 at Best Buy, Walmart, B & H Photo, Amazon and Motorola. AT & T, Cricket, T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, Boost Mobile, Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile will also feature this device.
However, the Moto G Stylus has other features that appeal to more productive users. 128/256 GB of storage, customization options, and a pure Android experience that supports microSD cards. The device has 6GB of RAM, a 3.5mm headset jack and a Type-C USB 2.0 port.
After all, the main selling point is the Moto G Stylus 5G stylus. Again, the stylus isn’t as flashy as the Samsung S-Pen, but that’s enough. The Motonote app also worked well, and Motorola introduced coloring options for downtime.
The display is 6.8 “FHD + Max Vision, clear at 1080×2400 resolution.
The Moto G Stylus 5G on the front of the camera is a 48MP quad camera setup with an ultra-wide-angle lens. Motorola has added a depth sensor as well as a macro vision feature to capture nearby photos. The front camera is 16MP.
While premium devices are pushing the boundaries of smartphone cameras to rival DSLRs, I’m facing the side that most cameras are sufficient. That said, there is an urge to get the best camera possible, but the price / perfect photo ratio is distorted.
I compared the photos of the Moto G Stylus 5G with the OnePlus 9 Pro. Not surprisingly, the OnePlus 9 Pro camera seemed to be better, but it’s almost triple the price. Cameras are the main differentiator for the premium smartphone market. Ultimately, tech buyers have to price the quality of their cameras.

Most reviews focus on device specs and mid-priced rivals and premium smartphones, but to understand Motorola’s strategy, you need to think about your business.
In recent weeks, Samsung has announced a series of digital transformation agreements that have sold thousands of devices to businesses. Some of these devices are rugged and designed for field workers. Others are for front-line retail workers and people who need to scan something.
What caught my eye on the Moto G Stylus 5G was that it was included in the Android for Enterprise recommendations. The device also includes Android 11 with one update and two years of security. However, keep in mind that Motorola also owns Lenovo with ThinkShield mobile management tools.
In many respects, ThinkShield is Motorola’s answer to Samsung’s Knox. You can see where this is heading.
The Moto G Stylus 5G can appeal to budget-conscious productivity workers looking for a device with an easy-to-dock stylus. The device also works for companies that are likely to cost less than $ 399, taking into account volume discounts. For digital processes, signing electronic documents can be a big streamline.
Motorola could also be boosted by Google, which sells Android devices to retail, transportation, hospitality, healthcare and other industries. Google is clearly trying to choose a device for Android play that combines everything from Samsung to Motorola, Oppo and Nokia.

What does this mean for the Samsung Note franchise?
I’ve been a loyal customer of the Samsung Galaxy Note for years since the device doubled as a reporter’s notebook. However, recent iterations have become premium and I have been at odds over how much share of wallet smartphones should take.
For example, I started looking at the Samsung Galaxy Note in connection with the Galaxy Tab with the S-Pen built in. Galaxy tabs will often go up for half the price. This pricing blunder is more damaging to the notebook than the idea of a smartphone with a stylus.
Now Samsung may or may not kill the Galaxy Note, and somehow may choose to put the S Pen inside a foldable device. The innovation may win a premium price.
The question is whether Samsung will somehow run the Galaxy Fan Edition, which may include the S-Pen.
But for the rest of us, and certainly for businesses, the Moto G Stylus 5G will be a good choice at an attractive price.
