Protecting the network
Security solution to manage the lifecycle for non-SIM and eSIM devices, and protect operator key infrastructure assets.
The number and variety of devices that need to be connected in constantly growing, driven by an increasing range of use cases and business models, and supported by reduced device costs. Many of those devices will rely on embedded SIM (eSIM) or will not have SIM at all. Market also demands strong authentication and encryption of communication channel to eliminate fraud attempts as well as solutions to secure the cloud environment.
Ericsson Device Security Enabler is a new product managing security for non-SIM and eSIM devices, providing remote provisioning capabilities according to GSMA specifications.
In addition to security for devices, Device Security Enabler also addresses security for key infrastructure elements in operator´s domain, like authentication and ciphering for Cloud Infrastructure or Radio Base Stations.
Device Security Enabler includes a module for managing the creation, management, revocation and distribution of secure certificates generated by the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) mechanism adopted in traditional Internet domains. In PKI, a digital certificate is an electronic document to proof the ownership of a private-public key pair. These digital certificates are used by end users to enable strong authentication to advanced services, and to provide a very high level of security for communications. As the private key of the private-public key pair never leaves the end user device when a certificate is issued, it makes practically impossible for any adversary to eavesdrop communications of the end user.
For remote provisioning of eSIM devices, Device Security Enabler includes also the SM-DP+ (Subscription Management – Data Preparation) module, according to GSMA specifications. This module enables a fully automated management of eSIM lifecycle, from device onboarding to provisioning of network nodes, optimizing operator OPEX and providing a better experience to end-users.
Device Security Enabler uses an integrated Hardware Security Module (HSM) to assure the secure storage of keep all secret cryptographic keys secure.
As reliability and performance are essential for operating systems like PKI and eSIM subscription management, Ericsson Device Security Enabler is deployed in a geo-redundant configuration.
