CARLTON CO., MN-- The Fond du Lac Reservation Business Committee has issued a statement following Friday's suspicious device incident.

"The Reservation Business Committee, as the governing body of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, recognizes that not everybody agrees with its decision to enter into a right-of-way agreement with Enbridge for 13.2 miles within the borders of Fond du Lac," said the FDL Reservation Business Committee in a written statement Saturday.

"The Reservation Business Committee's decision was carefully considered and was made through the Band's sovereign authority. We insist that outside protesters respect that authority."

The event caused widespread panic and public safety concerns.

According to the Carlton County Sheriff, 40 residents that lived within a 1/2 mile of the potential threat were evacuated Friday.

"We will push for the maximum charging and penalties for everyone involved in these types of crimes," said Carlton County Sheriff Kelly Lake in a Saturday press release.
