Android 12 Beta: How To Download & Supported Devices - Screen Rant

pandangsa.blogspot.com

Along with the many other announcements made during I/O 2021, Google also announced the release of the first Android 12 beta. Previously, Android 12 was available to download and install on compatible devices, but it was only a developer version. With the upgrade to a beta status, those wanting to get the latest Android features can do so through a more reliable version.

Android is the most popular mobile operating system around with Google confirming that there are no less than three billion devices now running on the software. Similar to iOS, Google makes a new version of Android available each year, albeit in stages. Right now, Android 12 has entered the beta stage and this will continue up until later in 2021 when the stable version becomes available, and likely on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro first.

The very easiest way to download the beta version of Android 12 is through the Android Beta Program. Set up by Google, this program allows device users to install the latest version of Android in a worry and trouble-free way. Once enrolled in the program, it works exactly the same way a user receives existing Android updates, with the upgrade arriving over the air. The benefit of this approach is there's very little for the user to do, other than download and install the update as normal. To enroll in the Android Beta Program, head to this link and sign in with the Google account that's linked to the device Android 12 is to be installed on. Then tap/click on "View your eligible devices" and confirm enrollment by tapping/clicking on "Opt-in" next to the right device. Soon afterwards, Google will push the update to the device, just like a normal update. While waiting, users can also manually check if the beta update is available by heading to the usual Check for update section of the settings after enrolling.

As it can take some time for the update to arrive, those keen on getting Android 12 as soon as possible can flash the factory image to manually install it on a compatible device. Android 12 factory images are available to download directly from Google (link). However, it is worth keeping in mind that flashing images are inherently more problematic, and it is important to ensure the right image for the right device is being installed, All of which makes the beta program not only easier, but also a safer way to install Android 12.

Devices Android 12 Can Be Downloaded On

Android update

As to be expected with such an early version of Android 12, device support is somewhat limited at the moment. Right now, the most widely supported smartphone line is Google’s own Pixel phones. While the earliest Pixel smartphone models are no longer eligible for an upgrade to Android 12, all of the new models are. Due to this, the Android 12 Beta is available to download on the following Pixel devices:

  • Pixel 3
  • Pixel 3 XL
  • Pixel 3a
  • Pixel 3a XL
  • Pixel 4
  • Pixel 4a
  • Pixel 4a (5G)
  • Pixel 5

For non-Google phones and devices, Google has partnered with ten companies to offer the option to download and test out Android 12. The list of supported partner device-makers are Asus, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Sharp, TECNO, TCL, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE. Each of these companies have specific instructions for installing the Android 12 Beta, so these users will need to click here and then on their specific device brand for exact instructions.

For those with a device that’s currently not compatible with the Android 12 Beta, that may change in time. Google will be making available additional beta versions over the coming months and device support is also likely to increase as they come through. Not to mention, there is always the option of just waiting in general. Although the beta versions can be exciting and fresh, they are still beta versions. The Android 12 version that is due to begin rolling out to devices later in the year will be the full, stable and user-ready version.
