SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. — Both directions of Interstate 70 near the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels reopened Saturday evening after an hours-long shutdown caused by a report of a possible explosive device inside a car.
The suspect car was parked on the westbound side of the tunnel. Troopers received a 911 call around 1 p.m. Saturday that the car may contain an incendiary device.
Around 1:30 p.m., authorities shut down the westbound lanes at the Eisenhower Tunnel. Thirty minutes later, they shut down the eastbound lanes at Silverthorne.
Troopers gave the all clear around 5:20 p.m. and reopened the busy interstate.
CSP said they received at least two calls in connection to the parked vehicle before troopers responded.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Josh Lewis said there was a person with the vehicle, but it's unclear if that person is still in the area.
The Jefferson County Bomb Squad was on scene to assist CSP. It’s not known what the device turned out to be.
Colorado State Patrol Troopers continue to investigate.
