With more automobile companies developing their own electric car models, General Motors (GM) is making a splash with its first all-electric pickup truck, called the 2022 GMC Hummer EV.
This appears to be the latest competitor in the growing electric car market, rivaling the model Tesla teased in 2019.
NBC reports that the electric Hummer will offer up to 1,000 units of horsepower along with 11,500 pound-feet of stump-pulling torque, making it one of the strongest trucks on the market.
With great power comes a great price, however, with the car priced around $113,000 for the first edition.

GM's newest model is meant to be “the ultimate expression of performance and capabilities,” according to GM executive Duncan Aldred. By combining its electric power source as well as its strength and classic truck features, the company aims to interest both electric vehicle fans and drivers with utility on their minds.
Some of the capabilities include handling deep water, rocky terrain or ruts. It also has up to 18 cameras for off-roading assistance and four-wheel steering.
It will be able to run on a battery pack containing 200 kilowatt-hours, amounting to 350 miles per charge. An official rating will be analyzed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Full charging times have yet to be released.
Interest was thoroughly peaked upon its debut, selling out of initial models within 10 minutes.
The design of an electric Hummer is the latest step GM has taken in its investment in electric cars. Earlier this week, the company announced it would invest $2 billion in its Spring Hill, Tenn., factory for production of electric vehicles.
The Hummer, while already popular, is also not the first electric vehicle rolled out by GM. The company has sold the Chevy Bolt EV since late 2016. In August, the company launched its first fully-electric Cadillac, the Lyriq, which features semi-autonomous driving comparable to some Tesla models.
"We are committed to investing in the US, our employees and our communities," GM Chairperson and CEO Mary Barra said. "These investments underscore the success of our vehicles today, and our vision of an all-electric future."
Electric vehicles are being considered as a safer, more sustainable alternative to regular cars, which run on fossil fuels that emit pollutants and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change.
Electric vehicles, commonly called EVs, do not run on gasoline, and typically release less pollutants into the environment.
Other car companies have joined in the race to develop an appealing electric truck, including Nikola — who partnered with GM — Lordstown Motors, Ford and Rivian.
