Being able to monitor brain activity on an ongoing basis will further doctors’ understanding of how the brain works. And it will greatly benefit patients.
As the device can record brain activity for months (versus brief in-person doctor/patient interactions), “we are able to see what’s going on all the time, and have an objective way to understand how the patient is doing.”
What’s learned from the Percept and the data it provides will take neurologists a step closer to the next generation of stimulators, “which are closed loop, or adaptive stimulators.”
In current DBS, the brain receives constant stimulation.

Fasano has high hopes for devices like Percept in the treatment of epilepsy.
