NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The City of New Orleans and Entergy New Orleans are asking people where they’d like to see charging stations for electric vehicles.

They’re looking for responses from both city residents and business owners and — to help find locations useful for travelers — those outside the parish.

Locations could be near restaurants, shopping centers, parks, libraries, or in public parking spaces, according to a city news release sent Tuesday. The survey asks people to rank nine types of places, also including hospitals, New Orleans Recreational Department facilities and Housing Developments or Affordable Housing Developments.

“The City is committed to providing residents with the infrastructure necessary to transition to electric vehicles, a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to gasoline-powered vehicles,” Mayor LaToya Cantrell said Tuesday in a news release. “We need to make sure we’re preparing for a sustainable future, and we are excited to kick off this work with Entergy New Orleans.”

There’s an interactive map to mark people’s preferred locations, plus surveys for people who own electric vehicles, people who don’t own them, and business owners. They’re online until March 13 at e no.mysocialpinpoint.com/evpubliccharging/home.

The city said Entergy New Orleans has committed to providing about 30 to 50 public charging stations, and New Orleans has $80,000 to build six charging stations. The city’s money is a grant from the Department of Environmental Quality from Louisiana’s share of the Volkswagen Clean Air Act settlement of 2016.

Survey questions for electric vehicle owners include whether they map out their trips according to locations of publicly available chargers. Those for non-owners include ranking whether they are considering buying an electric vehicle and factors affecting whether they are doing so. Those for business owners include whether such a vehicle would fit their business needs and whether they’d consider installing or hosting a charger station.

According to ChargeHub.com, there are 43 public charging station ports in New Orleans or within 9.3 miles (15 kilometers) of the city.
