Gogoro’s flagship electric smartscooter, pulse
Tech company Gogoro unveils its flagship electric smartscooter named Pulse, which has 13 adaptive headlights that can automatically change their luminosity depending on the riding situation. Dubbed Active Matrix Lighting, these headlights run as 13 independent LED units, each actively switching on when the rider is speeding up, making a turn, or riding during harsh weather conditions. When Gogoro Pulse picks up its pace on the road, the adaptive headlights extend their luminosity sideways, upwards, and downwards on their own to increase road visibility for the rider.

The electric smartscooter’s adaptive headlights also feature Active Corner Lighting, meaning their luminosity expands their bands of light when the rider makes a turn. Gogoro’s Pulse is smart enough to help the rider ensure their nighttime riding won’t cause accidents or harm using the adaptive headlights. The feature is already a prelude to other technologies installed around the electric smartscooter. It is equipped with Gogoro’s new Smart Cockpit dashboard too, which takes shape as a 10.25-inch panoramic HD touch display between the rider’s handles.

The panoramic HD touch display is bright enough to still be visible under the glaring sun and on dark roads. The screen flashes different ride modes, turn-by-turn navigation with real-time traffic information, and Gogoro GoStation locations, which are the booths that the rider can swing by to swap their low-charged battery with a fully-powered one. The rider can choose one of the modes that can help them achieve better riding, from Range, Dirt, and City to Touring, Track, and a custom one. The ride mode can be selected using the ride mode dial on the handlebars.

The Gogoro-developed Smart Cockpit is dubbed the first two-wheel vehicle in the world to be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon QWM2290 digital chassis too. Design-wise, Gogoro’s Pulse comes with a swappable battery that can be exchanged at any available GoStation locations. They pull out the battery from their electric smartscooter, insert it into one of the available slots in the energy stations, withdraw one of the batteries from their cell, and plug it into Gogoro’s Pulse.

Gogoro’s electric smartscooter with liquid cooling
Reducing drag and using airflow to cool its electric motor are part of the design language of Gogoro’s Pulse too. The electric smartscooter is fueled by an in-house Hyper Driver powertrain designed to help the ride increase its performance with minimal energy consumption. Pulse is also equipped with the H1 motor, an electric power plant, and Hypercore, a smart system that assists in delivering traction control along with 378nm of torque at the rear wheel. Gogoro’s Pulse also integrates a new hybrid water and air dual-cooling system, a combination of external air coming in to cool down the electric motor and liquid cooling within the encased electronics to ensure they don’t heat up quickly for long-distance riding.

Continuing a glimpse at the specs, Gogoro’s Pulse can run from zero to 50 km/h in around 3.05 seconds, and it can also achieve a maximum power output of 9 kilowatts. The electric smartscooter also includes its scooter key in the Apple Wallet app, meaning the rider can lock, unlock, and start Pulse with a simple tap on their iPhone or Apple Watch device. The riders can also locate their Pulse using Apple’s Find My App when they connect it to the electric smartscooter. Similar functions with Android are still yet to be announced by Gogoro. As of publishing the story, the electric smartscooter Pulse is expected to begin shipping in Taiwan in late the second quarter of 2024 with no official announcements yet on global availability.
