BROWARD COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2021 MetroDesk Media, LLC) (Source: BSO) — At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 4, a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy on patrol in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea discovered a possible military explosive training device that washed up onshore.

BSO deputies secured the area around the item and closed off a small section of the beach. The item has the word “inert” written on it, and out of an abundance of caution, the BSO Bomb Squad responded.

The United States Air Force also responded. BSO’s Bomb Squad, working in conjunction with the Air Force, determined that the sea mine was safe and safely removed it from the beach.

The beach has been reopened.
