Test scores surged higher than the national average at Maine Township High School District 207 near Chicago after the school’s technology director migrated students and faculty to Chromebooks in 2011. Users found them easy to operate, dependable and low maintenance — but as the devices grew more sophisticated with time, and as new devices launched each year, the district’s IT admins became overwhelmed trying to find the perfect product.

Through the years, Google has added enhanced features to Chromebooks, incorporating elements such as touch screens and an improved user interface, integrated recording tools, accessibility features and improved collaboration and instruction via Google Workspace for Education.

In February, Google announced new resources to help districts like Maine Township make the right choice and cut their onboarding time in half. The company unveiled a guide for choosing the right Chromebook and a new program called Zero-touch enrollment (ZTE).
