ANTIOCH — As county prosecutors filed new charges against two men accused of sneaking up on and murdering an Antioch woman over an ongoing custody battle, they’ve revealed a new allegation: that the victim was followed with a GPS tracker that had been installed on her car.
A new charging record filed in late July alleges that hours before 26-year-old Ramello Randle allegedly gunned down Jonaye Lahkel Bridges, he placed a tracking device on her car, and that he and his co-defendant, 41-year-old Christopher Slaughter, downloaded a tracker cellphone app and shared a login so they could follow Bridges’ movements remotely.
Bridges, 24, as shot and killed July 27, 2020, outside of a 7-Eleven at 2301 Buchanan Road in Antioch. A man she was with was also struck by gunfire and injured. The new charging records allege that Slaughter drove Randle to the store, waited for him to open fire at Bridges’ car, then drove him away from the area to “escape immediate arrest.”
Originally charged with murdering Bridges and attempted murder of her companion, Randle and Slaughter now face an additional count of conspiracy to commit murder. They face life without the possibility of parole if convicted of all charges and enhancements.
Prosecutors allege that the two used the tracking device to follow Bridges to the store, and that Slaughter also provided Randle with the .40-caliber Glock handgun used in the shooting.
Both men are set to be arraigned Sept. 14 in Martinez. They were ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing in mid-July, prosecutors said. They both remain jailed in Contra Costa County. At the time of Randle and Slaughter’s arrests last year, police revealed the suspected motive: Bridges and Randle had a child together and were in the middle of a custody dispute.
