BRUNSWICK, Ohio --- The city of Brunswick, along with several other Medina County communities, will be receiving four electric vehicle charging stations in 2022, through a partnership with the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA).
City Council approved the agreement this month whereby the NOACA will furnish, install and provide software support for the charging stations for a period of five years. Service Director Paul Barnett said the charging stations – two “fast charge” and two “normal charge” – will be located at Brunswick City Hall.
He added that the city will coordinate with NOACA on issues such as parking, how much to charge for the electricity and how much of a demand exists for the service. He noted, though, that the program comes at no cost to the city for the initial period.
“NOACA is putting these in all over the County, so they [are aware of such issues],” Barnett said. “For five years they cover the maintenance and software and after that, if we want to continue, it is up to us.”
Councilman At-Large Joe Delsanter suggested the city set aside any receipts from the charging stations for future use.
“We should probably develop a fund, especially while we are not paying for it, instead of [possibly increasing] charges egregiously in five years,” Delsanter said. “We might as well have a study while we have the five years.”
