ALAMEDA

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) has launched new rebates and a suite of online tools to encourage electric vehicle (EV) ownership.

The new incentives are part of an overall initiative to make driving EVs a more viable choice for Alamedans and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With AMP’s new rebates, residents can earn up to $1,000 back on the purchase of an all-electric used EV. If they choose a used, plug-in hybrid EV, they can get a rebate of up to $500. Income-qualified customers who are enrolled in AMP’s Energy Assistance Program will qualify for an additional $500 for each of these rebates. AMP is also offering rebates to help lower the purchase price of an electric forklift. Business customers who buy a new Class-1 or Class-2 electric forklift are now eligible for a rebate up to $2,000.

In addition to the new rebates, AMP has launched new website tools to provide Alamedans with information on choosing, charging and purchasing electric vehicles. AMP’s new online calculator helps Alamedans learn how much they can save by switching from a gas vehicle to an EV. AMP’s website also now offers a live EV model search to help users find the right car based on price and range per charge.

AMP funds the rebates through funds from the low-carbon fuel standard program, which aims to lower greenhouse gas emissions and promote clean fuels and electric vehicles. Visit alamedamp.com for more information on AMP’s electric vehicle rebates and programs.

Lyft, SOS Meals On Wheels, Wicks join forces for seniors

In response to the increased demand for meal delivery for seniors in need due to shelter-in-place orders, Lyft has partnered with SOS Meals on Wheels and Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, D-Oakland, to deliver about 200 meals a day to homebound seniors across Alameda County.

Through this new partnership, Lyft drivers are delivering a significant portion of meals across Alameda County and thus far have delivered more than 4,000 meals and counting to seniors in need. Also, the daily interaction with drivers is critical to supporting the well-being of homebound seniors, as it can provide them with a sense of normality, continuity and comfort during this difficult time. The program is part of Lyft’s broader LyftUp initiative, Lyft’s comprehensive effort to expand transportation access to those who need it most. At this time, Lyft has expanded its LyftUp efforts across the country by activating more than 500 partners in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
