Las Vegas' Electric Daisy Carnival, the sold-out three-day electronic dance music festival, is not happening in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Organizers abandoned plans to hold the event scheduled for Oct. 2-4 at the Las Vegas Speedway, after rescheduling from its original May 15-17 dates. Founder Pasquale Rotella wrote on Instagram Sunday that the event will be officially postponed to May 21-23, 2021.
Rotella wrote that the efforts to host a safe event for an estimated 450,000 attendees amid the surging coronavirus pandemic ultimately came up short.
"Unfortunately, we just learned that the medical advances necessary to pull this off will not be ready in time, which is why I’m making this announcement today," Rotella wrote. "This whole experience has truly been a wild ride. Here I am, a rave promoter, finding myself talking to biopharmaceutical companies about diagnostic tests for a novel virus while working with Nevada’s most prominent government officials. I’ve felt a lot of pressure wanting to come through for all of you & after taking time to exhaust every possible option, I can feel confident knowing this is the right decision."
All 2020 passes will be honored for the new 2021 dates and will automatically transfer over. Refunds for 2020 passes are also available.
The Las Vegas Review Journal reported Sunday that the number of COVID-19 cases in Nevada surged past 50,000 as state health officials reported 1,131 new cases. Sunday’s figures brought the total number of cases in Nevada to 50,205.
