The stalemate between HBO Max and Amazon Fire TV has finally come to an end. Beginning Tuesday, November 17, WarnerMedia’s HBO Max app will be available to stream on Amazon FireTV devices, including Fire Stick, Fire TV Edition smart TVs, and Fire Tablets.
The new HBO Max-Amazon deal will deliver the app to tens of millions of customers who have been eagerly awaiting an agreement since late May, when WarnerMedia’s HBO Max first launched. As WarnerMedia notes in a press release, Amazon Fire TV is the most popular streaming device in the U.S., and an agreement will only be advantageous to both sides. Per the release, HBO Max will be available to stream on Amazon’s new Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite, as well as every other device in the lineup.
As of tomorrow, users who subscribe to HBO through Amazon’s Prime Video Channels will be able to access the HBO Max app with their Amazon log-in information at no additional cost. Customers who subscribe to HBO Max via an existing cable provider can access the app through supported Fire TV devices, but will need to log in with their cable credentials. Additionally, the HBO app is expected to automatically update to HBO Max on Fire TV devices, but users can also manually update, if needed.
In addition, customers with Amazon Alexa will be able to navigate to the HBO Max app by saying, “Alexa, find HBO Max” into their Voice Remote or a paired Echo device — or, you can get even more specific and tell Alexa to find a specific show, like The Undoing or Game of Thrones. HBO Max content will also appear in Fire TV’s universal search, so users will now be able to see the service’s content among offerings from other networks and streaming services.
