Rivian to utilize north Normal warehouse to support its electric vehicle production - week.com

NORMAL (WEEK) -- Electric-vehicle manufacturer Rivian will be utilizing a north Normal warehouse for logistics and parts, the company announced Monday.

The lease of 500,000 square feet of the warehouse located at North Main Street and Kerrick Road is an agreement with its affiliate Phoenix Investors.

According to Rivian, the site has been vacant since 2008 and it plans to take possession of the facility in March 2021.

Interior preparation of the warehouse is expected to be completed by summer 2021 when Rivian starts vehicle production.

“We appreciate the investment Rivian is making in the Town of Normal. The economic benefits of their work ripples throughout the county, Central Illinois and beyond,” said Normal Mayor Chris Koos in the press release. “We also recognize and appreciate the commitment of Phoenix Investors in creating a facility to meet Rivian’s needs.”

Rivian will produce its R1T and R1S models, as well as the electric delivery vans for Amazon, at its manufacturing plant about six miles west of the warehouse site.
