Apple on Tuesday updated its Research app with a new capability that allows users to transfer study progress to a new device using iCloud.

The latest version 2.3 of Apple Research includes support for transferring study progress to secondary devices using iCloud backup, according to release notes accompanying the update.

With the new capability, users can easily transport ongoing study data to a new device like the upcoming iPhone 13 when restoring from a backup. The app lacks a direct means of sharing data from one device to another, though gathered Health data generated by studies can be exported as a .zip archive.

The Apple Research app launched in 2019 to further the company's Apple Heart Study, Apple Hearing Study and Apple Women's Health Study, all of which are still active. Participants of each study are periodically asked to fill out short surveys related to their health, which can include tests or readings conducted by devices like Apple Watch and AirPods.

Reports are published regularly, with the Women's Health Study most recently yielding new insights into menstrual cycles and its relationship with various health conditions in March.

Today's update also includes the usual assortment of unnamed bug fixes and performance improvements.
