The Hawaiian Electric Company has a new interactive web tool to gather community input on where to add more electric vehicle charging ports.

Charge Up Hawaiʻi has a survey and interactive map where users can drop a pin to show where they want to see more charging ports.

Hawaiʻi has over 15,000 registered electric vehicles today.

HECO estimates that in 2030 more than 3,600 public charging stations will be needed.

"Public charging is important, and we really think that providing charging will help accelerate the transition to clean transportation," said Michael Colon, a member of the Electrification Transportation team at Hawaiian Electric.

"Hawaiian Electric views their role as an important one — an integral one in providing that support. If we really want to see the change that we’re all desiring to improve and decarbonize communities here, everybody needs to play their part," Colon explained.

Charge Up Hawaiʻi will be available for several months until Hawaiian Electric gathers enough information for electric vehicle needs.
