A “suspicious device” was found inside a Southeast Portland bank Friday afternoon, forcing police to evacuate the building and close down the block.

Officers responded about 2:20 p.m to the Advantis Credit Union at 3010 S.E. Belmont St to a report that someone walked into the bank, briefly spoke to employees, left the suspicious device and walked out, police siad.

The Metropolitan Explosive Unit responded to the scene and removed the device, which was inspected and found to be not dangerous, police said later in the afternoon.

An explosives detection canine officer conducted additional sweeps of the area, police said. Officers have cleared and re-opened the area.

Southeast Belmont Street was closed between 30th and 31st avenues as well as Southeast 30th Avenue between Belmont and Yamhill streets.
